DESCRIPTION:Our outdoor adventures take us to some incredible places where we interact with nature in direct ways. From toadstools to thunderheads\, there is much to put our imaginations to work. Now capture those serene glens and stunning vistas into your own words\, to tell your story and find the meaning in your journeys outside. This is a one-day workshop for people who already like to write and want to join a community and get feedback to hone their craft.\nDuring a day long writing workshop\, participants will: \nRead examples of great nature writing to understand how they work \n\nTake a guided hike for inspiration\nGenerate their own personal essay\nShare it with the group for feedback\n\n\nAbout Brian Castner\n\n\n\nBrian Castner is a nonfiction writer\, former Explosive Ordnance Disposal officer\, and veteran of the Iraq War. His most recent book is Stampede\, a new history of the 1897 Klondike Gold Rush. He is also the bestselling author of Disappointment River\, All the Ways We Kill and Die\, and the war memoir The Long Walk\, which was adapted into an opera and named a New York Times Editor’s Pick and Amazon Best Book of the Year. His journalism and essays have appeared in the New York Times\, WIRED\, Esquire\, The Atlantic\, Foreign Policy\, and on National Public Radio. He is the co-editor of The Road Ahead\, a collection of short stories featuring veteran writers\, and has twice received grants from the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting\, to cover the Ebola outbreak in Liberia in 2014\, and to paddle the 1200 mile Mackenzie River to the Arctic Ocean in 2016. In March 2018 he joined Amnesty International as a Senior Crisis Advisor. SUMMARY:Introduction to the Adirondack High Peaks Trip (June 2026)
DESCRIPTION:Dreaming of climbing an Adirondack Mountain? This trip is designed specifically for first-time mountain climbers eager to reach their first summit. \nWe’ll take on some of the more accessible peaks in the Adirondacks\, but don’t be fooled—these hikes are no walk in the park. You’ll face the challenge of climbing significant elevation over rugged terrain. \nThe effort will be worth it as you’re rewarded with breathtaking mountain views and the unforgettable accomplishment of reaching the summit. \nLet us guide you on your first Adirondack adventure! \nWhat’s included:\n\nAccommodations at the historic Adirondak Loj\nBreakfast Friday\, Saturday\, and Sunday\nLicensed\, insured NYS Guides\n\nWhat’s not included:\n\nDinners\nLunches and trail snacks.
