We will go over High Peaks preparation\, fitness\, ADK map and route finding\, and how to combine peaks to make the most of your trip from WNY. This class will describe all 46 High Peaks in detail. \nThis is our introductory online class. Students will have access to the course recordings and our new courseware. \nThe virtual course dates are: \n\nWednesday\, April 8 6p-9p*\nThursday\, April 9\, 6p-9p*\n\n* The course will be delivered via Google Meet. \nCourse topics will include \n\nHistory of 46 High Peaks\nRules and regulations in the High Peaks\nLeave No Trace Principles in the High Peaks and alpine zones\nBackcountry safety\nProper gear for hiking in the backcountry\nFitness for the High Peaks and “warm-up” hikes\nTrip planning\, parking and route selection\nCombining peaks for efficiency\nThe 46ers – detailed review of each mountain and range\nHow to become a 46er\n\n*** We recommend that each student purchase ADK High Peaks Adirondack Trail Map (2021\, 15th edition) from ADK.org. \nCancellation Policy:\nA full refund minus the 3% payment processing fee will be given for a cancellation request more than 7 days prior to the scheduled event. This is a one-day workshop for people who already like to write and want to join a community and get feedback to hone their craft.\nDuring a day long writing workshop\, participants will: \n\nRead examples of great nature writing to understand how they work\nTake a guided hike for inspiration\nGenerate their own personal essay\nShare it with the group for feedback\n\n\nAbout Brian Castner\n\n\n\nBrian Castner is a nonfiction writer\, former Explosive Ordnance Disposal officer\, and veteran of the Iraq War. His most recent book is Stampede\, a new history of the 1897 Klondike Gold Rush. He is also the bestselling author of Disappointment River\, All the Ways We Kill and Die\, and the war memoir The Long Walk\, which was adapted into an opera and named a New York Times Editor’s Pick and Amazon Best Book of the Year. His journalism and essays have appeared in the New York Times\, WIRED\, Esquire\, The Atlantic\, Foreign Policy\, and on National Public Radio.
